Maryland Bishop Indicted For Fatal DUI Crash

The first elected female bishop to the Diocese of Maryland, Heather Cook, was indicted on 13 charges including DUI Wednesday (Feb. 4) for a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of a cyclist. Cook, according to reports, hit cyclist Tom Palermo as he rode his bike in the bike lane of a Baltimore City residential neighborhood and drove away, only to return 30 minutes later. At the scene Cook blew a 0.22 percent on the breathalyzer (the Maryland legal limit is 0.08 percent), and was also believed to have been text-messaging at the time of the collision. Cook, who was also charged with DUI in 2010, could face as many as 20 years in jail, she is currently on leave from the church.
